Just thinking . . . of freedom
Trembling eons of fear
Encrusted in hard cast of mail
Iron links corrugated nails
Bare-breasted sorrow
Buried deep within
Neath smiling-faced mirth
And hearty laughter
Lies an isolation doused in pain
Sensibilities worn in
Years upon years
Of agony
Anguish burning
Bright
And In solitude
til it waxes over and rolls off
Like molten tallow grease
Into crevices of shame
And all the while
Outstretched arms
Reach up
Hoping
to touch
A better day.
